Teeth are connected to the jawbone with one to four roots. To remove a tooth, the roots must be dislodged from the bone. A tooth extraction is a type of oral surgery, even though most extractions do not require incisions to remove the tooth. Planning and preparation are important for a smooth procedure. After your tooth extraction, you should plan to rest and recover for a day or two. There is minimal discomfort – ice, rest and pain relievers can provide you relief if you have any pain or swelling. Our dental team will discuss how to care for your surgical site to ensure it heals properly. Most patients can return to normal activities within a few days.
